Parker County-Truck Traffic Blamed for Damaged Roads

Dallas-City Council has two meetings this week.  On Monday, a special meeting will be held to consider the Dallas member appointments to the Regional Transportation Council.  (notice).

A Council briefing will held on Wednesday which will feature an update on the FY 2008 budget. (agenda).

Highlights include Police and Fire pay increases, addition of 200 additional Police Officers; no health care premium increases for employees and retirees; opening of the new Homeless Assistance Center and continuation of merit pay increases.

Despite a growth in the real property tax base of 11.5%, the City Manager indicates that a tax rate increase of less than four and one-half cents will be necessary.  (briefing).

Other business includes a 40-year lease of unimproved land at Love Field to Gulfstream Aerospace Services, amendments to and a restatement of the Union Station lease with Hunt-Woodbine Realty, and a comprehensive ordinance regarding design and appearance of news racks.  A closed session briefing will be held on issues involving the audits of establishments that sell alcoholic beverages.  This has been an issue with bars in Lower Greenville claiming to be restaurants.

The new mayor will be inaugurated on Monday, June 25.  He will get to preside over one Council meeting on June 27, before the Council takes its usual recess for the entire month of July.
